Dear participants,
it is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the Second Congress of the Italian Geochemical Society, which will be held in Perugia from the 1st to 4th of July, 2024.
Consistent with the title, From Theoretical to Applied Geochemistry, the Congress is organized into four broad thematic sessions, namely 1) Computational and Experimental Geochemistry,
2) Cosmochemistry and Planetary Sciences, 3) Environmental Geochemistry and 4) Geochemistry in Volcanic, Geothermal and Seismic Areas. More than 90 abstracts were submitted and various invited speakers accepted to be present for giving talks on their most recent discoveries in the different fields of Geochemistry. The program also includes
four plenary sessions, during which eminent scientists will present their insights on a broad range of topics, delineating the prospective trajectory of geochemistry and its interconnections with other disciplines. The plenary lectures will be given by international members of the (bio)geochemical community such as Maria Cristina De Sanctis, Donato Giovannelli, Andrea Bravo and Tobias Fischer. Four invited speakers: Giulio Ottonello, Valentina Galluzzi, Mauro Masiol and Sergio Calabrese, will open each thematic session.
The congress will also be the occasion for the presentation of the four prizes for the best doctoral theses in geochemistry that the society awards every two years, in keeping with one of the society’s commitments, which is the career promotion and advancement of young scientists. Thus, we are glad to announce that Abimbola Chris Ogunyele and Simone Paternostro shared the Galli Prize, Stefano Natali, Lisa Ricci and Giulio Bini won the Tongiorgi, Panichi and Tonani prizes, respectively.
This second congress of the Italian Geochemical Society could not have been realized without the sponsorship of the Umbria Region, Province of Perugia, the Municipality of Perugia and the University of Perugia. We also kindly acknowledge the support of the University of Florence (and Department of Earth Sciences), the Fondazione per l’Istruzione Agraria di Perugia, the CNRNational Research Council (and the Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources, IGG).
A special thanks is to INGV and to President Prof. Carlo Doglioni who strongly supported and sponsored the event. Thanks are due to all the members of the organizing and scientific committees, to the conveners and to the volunteers who contributed to the organization of the congress. Alessandra Ariano, Monia Procesi, Lisa Ricci and Mauro Tieri are warmly thanked for editing this INGV Miscellanea, to Francesca Di Laura (Graphic Lab. INGV) for the graphic creations used in this congress and to Felicia Corsale who managed the realization of the Tshirts, bags and all other “INGV-branded” gadgets. Private companies (ThermoFischer, Encotech and Pollution Analytical Equipment) are kindly acknowledged for sponsoring the congress.
We hope you enjoy this congress and we strongly believe that the participation and discussion to the oral and poster sessions will be benefited by our young researchers.
